Mike just spent some time with the guys at Ride BMX and they put together this cool how-to video on fixing up jumps and buttering lips, and here’s the end result. Get stuck in, spread the word, the world needs more trails spots.
Without doubt Backyard Jams reshaped the history and progress of BMX as we know it, not only for the UK but Worldwide – check out the article in The Albion issue 5. And now a film company named Bedlam, along with pretty much everyone involved with the Backyard Jams, are creating a new documentary film all about those days and the legacy they left us all. The trailer looks amazing… click on THIS.
Here’s Red Bull’s info: “This year’s Empire course is definitely going to be different from 2008. From the get go we start on real steps, cross a real road and down real rails. From this we go into a big Catty Woods-influenced step down leading into a right hand 270 berm. The first split section slows the riding down a bit, choice of rails on the right and more traditional trail hip jumps through the trees. The mellower gradient at this point should allow for some nice tricks, and consistency will be important to get through smoothly. We then see a similar elevated quarter pipe to 2008, straight into the big curved wall synonymous with Red Bull Empire of Dirt. Then the course picks up pace towards the end. A huge flat bank spine should really push the riders as on the approach it will look as if you are literally going to land in London! The last straight again splits, on the left a mega ramp gap to grind. Then on the right a Robbie Madison step-up to vertical roll-in. This will really test nerves and skill as no one will have ever ridden anything like this. If you get to the finish it all ends with an oversize trick booter.”
If you’re not on the invite list already, then there are a couple jams down south where you could end up with one of Kye Forte’s Wild Card entries – get yourself to Decoy on Saturday, or Wisley on Sunday. And pray it stops raining in time…
